青森県の伝統工芸品（ブナコ）

独自のユニークな製法で変幻自在に姿を変えることができる「ブナコ」

ブナコは、昭和30年代に青森県工業試験場で試作、研究の結果考案された木工品である。日本一の蓄積量を誇る青森県のブナを有効に活用するため、水を多く吸い込むブナの特徴を最大限に生かし、薄いテープ状にしてコイルのように巻き、押し出しずらして立体の物を形作ることで、材料となる木材を無駄なく使うことができる。従来の木工品にはないような形状も表現することができ、ひとつひとつが丁寧に手作りされている。
現在では食器用品だけではなく、ランプやスピーカーなど、デザイン性の高いインテリア用品にもその技術は応用されている。


　
BUNACO - taking on a wide variety of forms through a unique production technique

BUNACO is woodwork that was prototyped and developed at the Aomori Prefectural Industrial Research Institute around the late 1950s. Its products make effective use of the abundant beech wood of Aomori Prefecture, which boasts the largest stock of beech in Japan. Taking advantage of the wood’s ability to absorb water, it is sliced into thin tape-like strips, coiled, and pushed outward to form three-dimensional shapes, allowing the material to be used with minimal waste. Each piece is carefully handmade into shapes impossible to achieve with other woodworking techniques.Today, this technique is being applied in the manufacture of not only tableware, but also lamps, speakers and other interior goods with unique designs.
