青森県の伝統工芸品（八戸焼）

青森の大自然を連想させる焼物「八戸焼」

八戸焼は、江戸時代末期まで八戸の山中で焼かれていた焼き物である。藩主御用達品であった津軽焼とは異なり、八戸焼は民窯（庶民の為の焼き物）として親しまれていたと言われている。
一時期廃れてしまった八戸焼だが、昭和50年渡辺昭山の手によって再興された。現在では八戸市内で採取した粘土に工夫を加え、百数十年前の八戸焼を再現している。
八戸焼の特徴は、独自の緑釉を使い、青森の自然を体現した「緑色」である。青森の豊かな自然を焼物から感じ取れる一品といえる。



“Hachinohe Pottery” - pottery that conjures up images of nature in Aomori

Hachinohe Pottery was made in the mountains of the Hachinohe area right up until the end of the Edo period (1603-1867). Differing to Tsugaru Pottery, which was produced under license from the domain lord, Hachinohe Pottery was well-known as a “minyo” (kiln for the common people).
Hachinohe Pottery kilns fell into disuse for a period, but were revived with the help of Shozan Watanabe in 1975. The Hachinohe Pottery of over 100 years ago is now being cleverly recreated with clay collected in Hachinohe City.
Hachinohe Pottery uses a copper green glaze, which embodies Aomori’s green nature. One could say it is an item that conjures up images of Aomori’s abundant nature.
